One of the four dreamy locations were our love shoot took place, was in the picturesquely situated Mount Royal Park, a true landmark, only a stone’s throw from Montreal’s Old City. No matter how many times I stare at the sun setting over the parks in Quebec, it never fails to excite me. The softness of the natural light, and the way it wraps around the curvy trees, filtering through branches and leaves; naturally creates a romantic atmosphere.

Billie & Marina were in the mode for love, basking in the sweet nectar of a dreamy, and cinematic sunset.

During my stay in Australia, my good friend and footwear designer, Christian Kimber of Style Sage, was kind enough to introduce me to O’Mast; a devilishly handsome movie by Gianluca Migliarotti’, chronicling the rich Neapolitan tailoring tradition, through the eyes of some of Naple’s most important men of cloth.  And, as I suspected, O’Mast is the real deal.  Among other fascinating topics like the noble history of Naples tailoring, and the trail blazers of this unique male tradition, this movie provides a wealth of valuable information on the simple science of dressing well, that both the novice stylist and professional man can absolutely appreciate. For me, O’Mast has rightfully earned its place on my short list of classic movies.

Right from its opening scene and the music Migliarotti chooses, wraps the viewer in, setting  a noir tone for Beppe Modenese’s opening line, “Naples is Naples, it is a way of being, a way of perceiving….”- to they way he introduces Marchese Giancearlo Goyzuela to the audience, by starting from Monk strap up; I thought, were all masterfully executed.  When Antonio Panico talked about being proud of having three generations of clients, my spine simply melted. It give me the chills.  All those wonderful and rarefied luxurious fabrics with high tread count, splattered across the screen, intoxicated my willing heart, and set my imagination ablaze with great ideas, for our future grooms. It was like staring at the perfect hourglass. I was transfixed from beginning to end.

O’mast, struck a personal chord in me, bringing me all the way back to my childhood when mom, a perfectionist pattern maker was, and still is my hero. Now, If I haven’t in the past, on this blog, stressed the importance of personal style, and how fit is one of the central pillars to attaining it, then please accept my humble apologies, because fit, was certainly, hotly discussed at length. And, oh man, do they take such matters rather seriously.  I found those passionate conversations Migliarotti engages in, with a handful of some of the world’s best tailors, absolutely intriguing; especially, when they reflected on the days of growing up as youngsters, individually making the necessary sacrifices to get where they are today. Moments through out the movie, I fantasized about playing with the fabrics, like a child plays with sand. I wanted to roll around in them. Run my fingers through them. Wrap myself all over in them, and of course, make a few of my favorite suits.

Naples’ mighty empire of bespoke tailoring,  reminds us of the days when attention to detail and a passionate approach to one’s craft, was the opposite of a far flung utopia. He powerfully captures the sentiments and pure passion, with which making clothes matters to the Naples’ culture; the true transmitters of the art of dressing and style.

You know, marrying Lisa was already something very special to me, but you guys made it even more extraordinary. I constantly think back to how much fun we had during our engagement and wedding days. We felt so much at ease and comfortable during the entire time, and we seriously can’t thank you enough for your professionalism, you talent and most importantly, your kindness.

When initially searching for a photographer, there were a number of factors that were important to us. We wanted someone who had an excellent eye and sense of style, someone local who knew the area and knew how to use the beautiful backdrop of the city and landscape, but most importantly someone who genuinely cared about their clients and their work. From your very first email to Lisa , it was apparent that you cared about us more than just collecting our checks. Not only did you satisfy the factors mentioned above, you created a new factor…….the awesomeness factor! You guys are incredible! We never imagined that a wonderful friendship would develop through all of this, but it has. Both of you have been a true blessing in our lives and we are sincerely grateful to have you be a part of our wedding.”

“I’ll never forget the first time I met Eric, in a friend’s driveway in the summer of 1998. He was wearing jeans and a white T-shirt and a goofy-looking panama hat. I was 16 and wearing the look of total self-consciousness that was a permanent part of my wardrobe back then. He had a crush on me that entire summer, though I barely noticed. He kept popping up in my life again and again in unusual places over the next 10 years–on instant messenger conversations, at one uneventful date to the New York City Ballet, and, serendipitously, in front of Restoration Hardware in NYC’s Flatiron District in late 2008. I was newly single, he was newly transplanted back to New York, and our friendship reignited in an instant. We spent a completely inseparable year doing utterly romantic things in a totally platonic way–long dinners over a bottle of wine, ice skating dates, late night movies–before we finally realized we were crazy in love. I know the exact minute it hit me. December 2, 2009. It was like a ton of bricks. Eric was walking me home, took me up to my apartment to say goodbye, and whispered, “you’re my favorite person” in my ear. In my head, all I could hear was “kiss him, kiss him, kiss him!” but in reality, all I could do was smile and say, “thanks.” He left, and 30 seconds later, I sent him a text message. “Come back,” it read. “I really wanted to kiss you.” I could feel his footsteps thundering up the stairs and his fist banging on my door and finally, his lips planting a long-awaited kiss on mine. And that’s not where the story ends…it’s just where it, and our life together as husband and wife, begin”
