Styling The Man: Footwear Designer- Christian Kimber!

by Charles David

Chalk up the name Christian kimber. You’ll be hearing it again, and probably for a long time.

Footwear designer Christian Kimber is a man of impeccable taste and a timeless sense of style, who collects vintage ties- mostly knit ones, and whose inspiration comes partly by way of dashing Hollywood legend Cary Grant and Italian style icon and billionaire Gianni Agnelli, a man who was born with style, and never lost it. Christian’s close friends also play a central role in his aspirations.

As a footwear designer, Christian can engage in shoe talk until the cows come home. With years of experience, and a love for accessorizing,  the footwear designer has amassed a superb and highly desirable wardrobe in the world of male sartorial splendor. To say our man from across the pond loves cloth, would  be the understatement of this millennium.

I met up briefly with the charming, slightly-auburn hair,  designer in a boutique in downtown Melbourne to photograph him and a few things he thinks every man should own.

A Love Story: Just The Photographs!

by Charles David

Sometimes, love can be so radiant, so powerful, so immovable, that as wedding photographers, we just capture the authentic moments as they unfold through our lenses.

Witness a precious moment in time, where undeniable love has taken its rightful place in our hearts and in the hearts of many, only to become a part of our fondest and dearest memories. These two genuinely warm and down to earth young professionals,  in their gentle, calm and steady demeanor; remind us, what weddings are all about.

S&E booked the most stunning venue and hotel, which made a wonderful backdrops for their entire wedding day. The Crosby Street Hotel in SoHo has some of the most amazing art all around the hotel, not to mention the wallpaper & bed heads in the rooms were art installations in and of themselves! The wedding and brunch took place at the elegant but rustic restaurant, Public, also in SoHo. It was a beautiful ceremony, delicious food, great company and the natural light was a photographer’s dream! We couldn’t have asked for anything more! Priscilla & Kelvin Shoot: Hong Kong!

by Charles David

We flew to Hong Kong in December for two exciting engagement shoots and had the time of our lives.

Hong Kong is an absolutely vibrant city with just about any activity a little traveling heart desires. What makes this city so different from any other city I have visited, is the contrast between the high rise buildings and the surrounding massive, beautiful, majestic mountains. At night, when we drove through them, the higher we went, the cooler and fresher the air up there, became.  The view of the city from atop, was a highlight of our trip; it left us speechless. You had to see it for yourself to believe it.

When it comes to eating, folks in Hong Kong are serious about their food. And I mean serious. Just about everywhere we went, at any time of the day, there were mobs of people bonding over steamed fish, stewed beef, roast duck, roast goose, suckling pigs and any exotic meat available. We ate some of the most mouth watering dishes my taste buds have ever encountered. My palate and my senses were in utter harmony with each other.

As for our shoot, it was a grand success. We found ourselves in a constant state of creativity. Priscilla & Kelvin and Wendy & KD were inspired by the unmistakable ambiance that blanketed the romantic little streets and so were we. The end results could not have been more pleasing.

Styling The Man: The Heart Of Creativity.

by Charles David

The artisan’s heroism illuminates at its brightest when their creative spirit is in complete harmony with their passions.

A craftsperson’s artistic values rest at the heart of their work. Which in turn informs, nurtures, and develops our personal style. In a society of mass production and little regard for the value of craftsmanship, I would like to present to you an artist who in his unique manner, expresses his passion from the heart. All in the name of a beautiful, iconic accessory that will never lose its charm.

Styling The Man: “In Conversation With Pierre Cardin”

by Charles David

Pierre Cardin is more than just a fashion designer – he is the godfather of fashion and the first designer whose elegant clothes I ever fell in love with as a teenage. He is simply the original architect of style!

When Editor-in-Chief Michelle Ogundehin sat down for a conversation with the 90 year old legend,  it was evident his passionate, beating heart still possessed a burning desire for creativity. Cardin sat comfortably in his office in Paris, in an all too familiar scene of organized chaos, usually favored by the creative minded individual. Surrounded by fashion magazines, drawings, sketch pads, pencils and tear sheets, he confidently reflects upon his legacy and contribution to the world of Hute Couture.  I especially loved the bit where he confesses to “see shapes, colours,  and materials in the night when it’s dark.”

Pierre Cardin was born in Italy then moved to Paris in 1945. He was a rare visionary who set new trends in various distinguished categories in the world of high fashion and big business. Pierre Cardin was the first designer to license his name to fashion apparel and food. He was the first haute couture fashion designer to launch a women’s ready-to-wear collection in the 1950′s.  He was also the first designer to attempt putting high-end fashion into the reach of everyday people, an idea altogether new for its time, and was excoriated upon in the sensitive world of the fashion elites. In 1960, Cardin successfully unveiled his first men’s couturier line  and it immediately became a big hit.  Jackets were cut with higher shoulders and given a tapered European look, which created a slight flair. In addition, sleeve heads had slight rolls adding yet another unique dimension to men’s style. Trousers were designed with bell bottoms and without pleats. How new for its time!

For more of Cardin’s and Ogundehin’s conversation, you will find it in its entirety in the latest April/Spring edition of Elle Decor UK. I can’t wait to get back to NYC to get my hands on my copy. I am curious to read what else is on his mind.

Ken and joey: Affairs Of The Heart!

by Charles David

June 24th, will forever be an important day in New York history. You see, it was on this day in 2011 law makers passed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage, making it the sixth and largest state to approve this measure.

Meet Kenneth & Joey, two loving hearts who finally got their day at the alter to celebrate their moment of bliss and were as gracious as any couple could be. They got married at the landmark Brooklyn Academy of Music, only six months removed from the signing of the same sex bill and surrounding their wedding was a natural and heartfelt feeling of happiness. On their wedding day, Kenneth & Joey fell into the arms of friends and family as they arrive from all over the borough ready to mark the occasion. The shouts of joy echoed throughout the building filling the atmosphere with a kind of youthful excitement and energy one would normally find at a pep rally for the local high school swim team.

The celebrant was a great homily speaker whose collected manner and sense of humor were welcomed and entertaining.  His message was passionate, funny and full of genuine sentiments. He truly captured the spirit of the union. As for decor, we can’t say enough wonderful things about the folks over at BAM, who threw a memorable shindig that evening. We were not only impressed with their constant professionalism and charm and how gracious hosts they were, but were equally blown away at how wonderfully they transformed the room.

It was a heartfelt evening, as we once again celebrated love, family, friendship and equality. We laughed, we cried and even got into the Soul Train line.

Styling The Man: Divine Inspiration!

by Charles David

In Elle Decor Uk’s March edition now on news stands, editor Michelle Ogundehin’s heart-to-heart letter aroused and motivated my being to keep pushing on and always continue to fully engage in the moment.  Inspired by Mother Teresa’s outlook on life,  Michelle’s note simply reminds us of outside forces of opinions in the unavoidable vortices that is life and when it encroaches upon our efforts, that perseverance, honesty, awareness and a little fate, should be exercised.  Enjoy letter below!

March: Divine Inspiration

I was reminded recently of a mantra made famous by Mother Teresa that could be read as a blueprint for living a fulfilling life. It goes thus…

‘People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centred;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;

Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone may destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is all between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.’

Whether you believe in God, spirits, the universe – whatever you wish to call that which is beyond you, me, us – it makes no difference; the sentiments remain the same. Whether we call it taking responsibility for the way we interact with the world or taking responsibility for our words and actions, the sentiments, again, remain the same. No-one can be perfect, and nor should we aspire to be, but in these difficult times when the instinct to blame or flee may become stronger, I thought this was a beautiful ‘poem’ for us all to keep in mind.

Thank You: Sonali & Chirag, Pear River

“LOVE. That pretty much sums up our review of Wrinklen in Time Photography. My husband and I searched high and low for the perfect photographers. And WIT was more than perfect. I found them after looking at hundreds of different bogs. I stumbled upon their photography blog and instantly fell in love. I loved how pure and crisp their shots were. They capture events and emotions so well you feel like you’re actually there. I avoided all the regular photographers because I didn’t want cookie cutter images that I would probably look at a few times and toss into a closet. I wanted a time machine. I wanted to be able to travel back to my wedding day and feel what I felt, see what I saw. I knew the moment I saw their work, my search was over.

Initially we felt really odd and awkward in front of the camera, since its not everyday you have people snapping photos of you. But they really made us feel really comfortable, and gave us great direction. It all started with the engagement shoot, which kept on getting delayed and postponed by us until we couldn’t hold it off any longer. It was shot 10 days before the wedding and they worked extra hard and put together a slideshow for our wedding day.
Tatjana and Charles are incredibly friendly, easy-going and all around awesome to be around. I can’t tell you how many guests told me how much they loved our photographers! They were there for everything. They will do anything, go anywhere to get the perfect shot. They aren’t just interested in taking your picture, they want to capture your moment in a way you never thought somebody could. Unlike other photographers they were not pushy and obtrusive at all. They captured moments I didn’t even know they were there for! They are incredibly passionate about photography and it really shows in every image they take. They have a truly unique vision and I am so grateful to have found them. Everytime I look at our wedding pictures I relive the best day of my life.”
